Welcome to the Albany Society of Engineers

Location:   The Clarion Hotel, 3 Watervliet Ave Extension in Albany

Directions: From I-90 Westbound, get off at Exit 5, left onto Everett Road, then a left at the second light onto Watervliet Ave.  From I-90 Eastbound, get off at Exit 5, bear right onto Everett Road, then a left at the first light onto Watervliet Ave. The parking lot is a left turn off Watervliet Avenue when coming from Everett Road.

Program: CDTA's Vision of the Future: 100 Miles of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)

Speaker: Ray Melleady, CDTA Executive Director

Raymond Melleady was appointed CDTA Executive Director in June 2006. His primary responsibilities include oversight of the regional authority, which provides transit services for the entire Capital District area. In addition, CDTA owns and operates the Rensselaer Rail Station, the tenth busiest in the nation, and the Saratoga Train Station. Ray is a tireless advocate for the social and economic benefits associated with public transportation. He has a B.S. in Business Management from Rosemont College and is an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Master Certified Technician. Mr. Melleady is a member of the American Public Transportation Association (APTA) Bus Maintenance Committee and works on the Transit Research Board Project on Transit Technician Certification. Mr. Melleady’s presentation will include: Summarization of the Bus Rapid Transit system and green technology issues, CDTA’s future plans to meet growing demands despite the challenges of limited capacity and resources, and a preview into buses of the future.

Who We Are 

Members

The Albany Society of Engineers is composed of persons of all ages actively engaged in or retired from the profession of engineering or kindred professions. Included are persons from government, communications, utilities, industries, commerce and private engineering practice.

Mission 

The Mission of the Albany Society of Engineers is the promotion of high professional standards in the practice of engineering and related science and technology in the community through the educational advancement of its members and the community. 

Meetings

The Albany Society of Engineers meets once a month from September through June. The meetings consists of a dinner followed by a presentation of a timely technical topic.  Usually, the May and June meetings are preceded by a field trip to a project, industrial or research facility.

Who Can Join

Membership is open to anyone with a technical background interested in promoting the advancement of knowledge and practice in engineering. Anyone interesting in joining may contact President John Grathwol or submit a Membership Application (PDF) or Membership Application  (Word).
